World Mayors Summit on Climate

World Mayors Summit on Climate

Mexico City, 21 November 2010

The World Mayors Summit on Climate (WMSC) was held on November 21, 2010 in Mexico City.  Almost one hundred cities from around the world signed the Global Cities Covenant on Climate “the Mexico City Pact” that sends a clear message to the international community on the strategic importance of cities in the struggle against climate change.

The summit was convened by Marcelo Ebrard, Mayor of Mexico City and Chair of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change. ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability and UCLG also supported the summit.

The implementation mechanism of the Pact  is the carbonn® Cities Climate Registry, which was presented at the 16th Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Cancun early December 2010.
